About Ole Country Smokehouse

James Glenn Hardy worked at a Tire Corporation for sixteen years, however beginning in 1984 he started catering for company parties, reunions and close personal friends. These caterings consisted of cooking (an all night process) on a portable cooker which Glenn designed and built from scratch.

In July of 1994 marked the arrival of his son, Cole. This event was a turning point for Glenn which made him choose the type of work he really enjoyed and would allow him to spend more quality time with his family. Thus, eliminating the swing shifts that he was presently working. He began putting his idea on paper, designing large scale cookers that would work in a restaurant environment, developing recipes for unique barbeque sauces, and talking with people and listening to hundreds of ideas the sparked his interest in opening his own business.

In October of 1994, Glenn's dreams became a reality with the opening of Ole Country Smokehouse. Two months after the restaurant opened, Glenn was able solely focus on it. He gave up his job to pursue his dream. He was able to devote all his energies to the restaurant. In 1996, Glenn gained control of Ole Country Smokehouse on behalf of his family and began to redevelop many parts of the business. For example, the expansion of the menu to include seafood, steaks and other smoked items as well as homemade cobblers & ice cream. Plus additional new custom built equipment designed by Glenn for his recipes . An addition of a enclosed porch which allows for additional seating space for 75 people. 

Shown in the photo (above) is a family portrait of Glenn Hardy, his wife Sherry and their son Cole. Also in photo is Glenn's Mother & Father-in law James & Anne Rhodes. In the photo that Glenn is holding, is his parents Howard & Verena Hardy which both are deceased. Both set of parents had a big impact on the founding of Ole Country Smokehouse, a family owned & operated restaurant since 1994.
